Simile and Metaphor

Literary Terms 2 & 3 – Metaphor and Simile

Metaphors and similes describe one thing in terms of something else.

Metaphors are direct comparisons and often contain the words is, are, was or were.

Similes, on the other hand, use the words like or as.

Metaphor: My brother is a pigl

Simile:      My brother eats like a pig.
